Right-handers Lily Wall and Mandy Scott each notched two wins as Millburn Softball Club’s 10U Marvels outscored their opponents 38-17 over the first four games of the season.
Millburn’s fastpitch team traveled to North Brunswick September 22 where they defeated both the Carteret Kraze and Robbinsville Rampage.
Millburn Marvels 10, Carteret Kraze 2
Zoey Blake led the offense, going 2-for-3 with 3 RBI’s while Scott scored scored three runs and Kendall Krauser stole two bases. Wall allowed only 2 hits as the Millburn defense stood strong behind Sydney Chimenti at first base and Taylor O’Neill at second who stabbed a speedy line drive to end the second inning. Catcher Blake combined with third baseman Ella Simons to throw a runner out stealing while outfielders Carly Handwerger and Marley Macca made great run-saving stops
Millburn Marvels 11, Robbinsville Rampage 5
Ellie Solomon owned first base with three fully extended diving catches and contributed two runs on offense. Scott pitched an impressive game, allowing only six hits and striking out three while she helped her own cause on offense with two singles, three stolen bases and three runs. Lizzie Ferrari battled thru two full-count at-bats to draw walks including one that drove in the game-winning run. The Marvels kept Robbinsville in check with great defense from Macca, O’Neill, Claire Sartorius and Madison Stevens.
The Marvels hosted rivals Montclair and Packanack Lake at Glenwood School September 23 and earned two victories with stellar team and individual performances.
Millburn Marvels 11, Montclair 5
Simons and shortstop Addison Freimauer led the Marvels offensive charge, combining for five RBI’s. Wall pitched another gem, fanning six Montclair batters. Freimauer, rightfielder Emma Glickman and first baseman Amie Sorkin made clutch defensive plays. Handwerger led off the pivotal second inning with a walk and stole third before Sartorius scored the go-ahead run for the Marvels. The offense continued with line-drive singles from Chimenti, Glickman and Solomon and great baserunning from Ferrari and Krauser
Millburn Marvels 6, Packanack Lake 5
The bats heated up as the Marvels hit .533 against Packanack Lake, with two-hit outings from Blake, Freimauer and Simons. Sorkin smashed a rally-starting single to in the third inning to put Millburn ahead and Madison Stevens sent a solid shot down the first base line in what ended up as the game-winning RBI. Packanack Lake tightened the game up in the last inning but Scott held her own on the mound with excellent play behind the plate by O’Neill for the win.
